Baltimore Ravens in top 12 of current NFL power rankings

Who are the NFL’s best teams? Where do the Baltimore Ravens rank? This answers these questions:

The Baltimore Ravens are 4-2. Let’s take a look at the NFL as a whole to figure out where the Ravens belong in the power rankings.

The National Football League is a week-to-week proposition, and power rankings follow that same pattern. A team looks impressive? They climb. A team lays an egg? They fall. It is a fluctuating cauldron of conjecture and overreaction for the first few weeks of the season, but things appear to be leveling out a bit now.

Sure, there is a team that is sitting in that 2-4 range right now that’s going to shoot up these rankings by the end of the year. And there is a team near the top that will tumble down in a free fall. But, for the most part, we’re starting to see who these teams really are.

Let’s take a look at where we see these teams sitting now.

32. Miami Dolphins (0-5)

The favorite for the first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft continues to be the Miami Dolphins, who nearly put a crimp in their own efforts at incompetency by pulling out a win against the nearly-as-hapless Washington Redskins. Alas, they blew it in Dolphins style and the dream continues.

31. Cincinnati Bengals (0-6)

They scored a late touchdown and nearly came up with an onside kick against the Ravens on Sunday to give a little scare to the fine people of Baltimore, but that score was not indicative of the game in its entirety. Andy Dalton might want to start his free agency tour shortly.

30. Washington Redskins (1-5)

It’s been a tough 28 years in Washington, and all signs point to the next 28 being a tough road, as well. They came within two yards of losing to Miami on Sunday. Two yards from infamy.

29. Atlanta Falcons (1-5)

Something just isn’t right with this organization, and it goes beyond injuries. They have far too much talent to be sitting at this record, and one might wonder if coach Dan Quinn shouldn’t send his shirts out to the dry cleaners any time soon. When things go bad, the coach gets the heat.

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-4)

There are 10 to 12 teams still that have me scratching my head. Tampa Bay is one of those teams, and Jameis Winston is at the top of the list of quarterbacks who make me do the same thing. Bruce Arians came out of retirement for this?

27. Arizona Cardinals (2-3-1)

The Cardinals stunk last year. They reek less this year. Kyler Murray is beginning to show the talent that made him the first pick in the draft and things are starting to turn around a bit in the desert. This team might climb more before this season is over.

26. New York Giants (2-4)

They got drilled by New England on Thursday night, but they hung around into the second half. Like Arizona, the Giants appear to be moving in the right direction. If they can get their offensive play-makers back in uniform, they might make a little noise.

25. New York Jets (1-4)

Sam Darnold made it back from the senior prom… I mean, recovered from mono, and the Jets went out and beat the Dallas Cowboys, making the Jets the darlings of the NFL world in 31 cities. This is yet another team that might trend upward from here.

24. Tennessee Titans (2-4)

Marcus Mariota or Ryan Tannehill? This is how you end up 24th in the power rankings.

23. Cleveland Browns (2-4)

Let’s be real: Cleveland is better than they have shown to this point. At least they are on paper. At some point, this uneven play and questionable coaching becomes a legitimate trend. There is time for the Browns to turn this around, but they might want to start right after their bye.

22. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-4)

Minshew Mania hit a bit of a speed bump in their 13-6 loss to the Saints, but that New Orleans defense is good. The Jaguars defense showed it’s pretty good, too. This is a team that can beat nearly anyone, and lose to absolutely anyone.
