Derek Wolfe would be a smart signing for Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens have a hole on their defensive line after the signing of Michael Brockers fell through. Derek Wolfe would be a nice secondary option.
Michael Brockers was going to be a good get for the Baltimore Ravens… that was until he failed his physical with the team and the team voided his contract. Brockers wound up going back to the Los Angeles Rams and now the Ravens have a hole on their defensive line. There are some intriguing options and avenues the team can go towards filling this hole, but bringing in Derek Wolfe would make a lot of sense.

In case you aren’t aware of who he is, Derek Wolfe is a Super Bowl champion who spent the entirety of his career thus far (2012-2019) with the Denver Broncos. Wolfe was actually a key fixture on the Broncos show-stopping, Super Bowl-winning 2015 defense. Wolfe has a motor that always runs red-hot. He’s a classic hardhat and lunch pail kind of player.
The biggest gripe with Derek Wolfe is that he’s never quite at 100%. In his eight NFL seasons, Wolfe has played all 16 games just three times. Still, Wolfe has produced when on the field as evident by his 33 career sacks.
In 12 games last season, Wolfe recorded a career-best seven sacks. Wolfe was a force off the defensive line when Denver needed him most, as the team was reeling for pass-rushing help after losing Bradley Chubb for the season (torn ACL). When called upon, Wolfe stepped up.
The Baltimore Ravens are looking at slim pickings in Free Agency right now for defensive line help, but man does Derek Wolfe look like an oasis in the desert. Wolfe may not be the run defender that Michael Brockers is, but he’s certainly a more accomplished pass rusher. Truth be told, that might make him somewhat more valuable to the Ravens.
Baltimore will be moving Brandon Williams back to nose tackle in 2020 and the team also added Calais Campbell to help shore up the defensive line. Derek Wolfe would be the final piece to the puzzle and would bring the intensity from the trenches. Plus, teaming Wolfe up with Campbell and Matt Judon sounds like a pretty awesome pass rush.
