The Bad:

This was a bit of an unsteady game. If it wasn’t for a 17 point second quarter, the Ravens would have had a close game. They scored a single field goal in the first quarter. The purple and black only scored three points in the third quarter.  It was a slow start, not up to the overly fun Baltimore standards that have been established in the past year and a half. The Ravens looked a little less explosive and they showed they still had some kinks to work out.

One thing the Texans did a good job of was bottling up Jackson in the running game,. Two weeks in, Jackson’s running game has not quite been the same. The Texans did a great job of outside contain. Jackson couldn’t take over the game the way he did a year ago when this game was in Baltimore.

The pass rush wasn’t great in this game. Now the Ravens got to Deshaun Watson a few times, but it more often than not, Watson had too much time to throw the ball. The Ravens can lean on the excuse that they played most of the game without Tavon Young, however they got surgically attacked at times in this game. The Ravens will be judged by their battle against the Chiefs next week.

The one thing they needed more than just a win in this game was an overriding level of confidence before the biggest test of the entire season. If the Ravens steamrolled the Texans, the purple and black faithful would feel a little better about themselves. 33-16 was a comfortable win. It wasn’t the dominant show of force they needed.

The Ravens won the game and they looked good. It really felt like a weird game. They felt almost out of sync. I know this is the bad section, but that’s almost the encouraging part of this game. This wasn’t the best game that Baltimore has in them. They won convincingly.
