The Baltimore Ravens suffered two huge blows to their defense as both Calais Campbell and Marcus Peters left Week 15’s game against the Browns.

The Ravens lost 13-3 to the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, ceding significant ground in the ongoing AFC North race. While the defensive unit wasn’t without its faults, the offense only mustered three points and was plagued by clock management issues and red zone execution issues all game.

That put too much pressure on the defense to get their opponents off the field, and the Browns were able to close out the game to give Deshaun Watson his first win in Cleveland.

Cornerback Marcus Peters suffered a calf injury and limped off the field in the third quarter, eventually being ruled out of the game.

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter, though he was able to walk off the field under his own power before heading to the locker room.

Head coach John Harbaugh did not give any specific details on either players’ injuries after the game, noting that the team will “know more tomorrow.”

Peters, a three-time Pro Bowler, had a season-ending ACL injury last season, and seeing the corner get hurt again no doubt dredged up traumatic memories for Ravens’ fans.

Peters has 44 tackles, six passes defended, and one interception in 12 games and has been a key fixture of the Ravens’ secondary this year — if he has to miss time, the Ravens will need to rely on a rotation of Marlon Humphrey, Brandon Stephens (who replaced Peters), and Kevon Seymour.

As for Campbell, the veteran defensive end recently won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for blocking a field goal against the Steelers and is equally crucial in the Ravens’ defense.

Campbell has stayed productive as ever with 5.5 sacks on the year, and in his absence, the rest of Baltimore’s defensive line may need to generate more pressures and stay stout against the run.

Expect a more detailed update on Peters’ and Campbell’s health statuses soon.
