Ravens’ Free Agency: Feb. 27

So yesterday, if you haven’t heard, former Ravens linebacker Bart Scott signed with the New York Jets.  He had good reason to sign there, with Rex Ryan as their new head coach.  This could be a huge boost for the Jets or it could be a huge bust for the Jets.  In the past, when players go to “New York’s 2nd Team,” especially linebackers, they don’t quite live up to expectations.

Dominique Foxworth, a cornerback from Maryland, signed a contract with the Ravens for 4 years worth $27.2M and this could be the indicator that Samari Rolle is about to go.  After doing some research, I now found out what Benji’s comment was talking about.  Foxworth should be a great compliment to Fabian Washington, and the Ravens now have two talented young cornerbacks to build around.  This could change their whole draft strategy.

Speaking of the draft, a new mock draft is coming this weekend (hooray!)

Other than moves made by the Ravens, some big moves were made.

  • Kellen Winslow, the Raven-killer, was traded to Tampa Bay in exchange for Cleveland’s 2nd round pick this year, and their 5th next year.
  • Albert Haynesworth signed a huge contract with the Redskins
  • The ‘Skins also locked up DeAngelo Hall for another 5 years.
  • The Bills signed Bengals’ backup-starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • A new player has emerged in the Ray Lewis sweepstakes: Denver.  Now the main players are Dallas, Denver, and of course, Baltimore.  NFL News+Rumors has a good article about Denver and Lewis.
  • The Patriots finally have a dependable running back: They signed Fred Taylor yesterday.  This makes MJD the main guy at Jacksonville for the first time in his career.
