Anthony Allen Has Something To Prove

The Baltimore Ravens’ seventh round draft pick “wants to make all the other teams that passed on him sick to their stomach.” Anthony Allen has taken great insult to being drafted so late. The former Georgia Tech running back has a big chip on his shoulder and wishes to show the rest of the league what they passed on. In college, Allen proved to be a big threat in Georgia Tech’s triple option running attack where he rushed for 1,934 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons.

Although Ray Rice has pretty much locked up the starting runningback position, the probable loss of Willis McGahee will warrant the need of more depth at the position. In addition, fullback Le’Ron McClain may not be with the Ravens next year thus leaving a void at fullback. If he stays, both McClain and Allen could be interchangeable creating another three headed monster like the one in 2008 with McClain, McGahee, and Rice. Though there may be some doubt surrounding a 7th round draft pick’s talent, it’s not uncommon for late draftees to come out with a chip on their shoulder and prove to be superstars (Do I have to mention Tom Brady?). Let’s hope that Anthony Allen has success in the NFL and helps aid the Baltimore Ravens’ 2011 journey towards the Lombardi Trophy.
