Jerricho Cotchery signs with Pittsburgh

facebooktwitterreddit

Free agent WR has signed a one year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Cotchery was cut by the Jets after they signed Derrick Mason.  He had failed his physical with the Jets prior to getting released.

Cotchery had his best year in 2007 when he caught 82 passes for 1,130 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He averages 51 catches per year at a 12.6 YPC average.  The free-agent wide-out had visited a few teams, including the Ravens, but chose to sign with the Steelers.  The Ravens apparently, did not offer a contract to Jerricho Cotchery.

It will be interesting to see what type of roll he has with the team as they already have Hines Ward who is a very similar receiver.  They also have Mike Wallace and young receivers such as Emmanuel Sanders and Limas Sweed.  I do not think this signing will really have much of an impact on the Ravens vs. Steelers matchups.  I still feel more confident in our young receivers than a FA wide-out coming off back surgery.  In my opinion, Tandon Doss can put up the same numbers as Cotchery.
