Although the Baltimore Ravens would love to possess the first seed right now, they can’t complain being number two and in control of their own destiny. As we enter the final week of the NFL regular season, the Baltimore Ravens pack up their bags and head on the road to face a very tough Cincinnati Bengals team who will be sure to give them a run for their money.
When the NFL schedule is released in the spring, fans quickly peruse the games and usually mark off a lot as gimmes. I would assume that no one guessed the Jaguars or Seahawks would now have a big red “L” next to them but despite these hiccups, the Ravens are in a favorable spot right now.
Based on the Bengals record last year (4-12) and the fact that Carson Palmer would not be returning, many were prepared to write the Bengals off. Instead of living up to their poor expectations, the Bengals shut up their doubters and are now currently in contention for a playoff spot.
The Bengals gave the Ravens a run for their money in week 11 and were a controversial call away from potentially tying the game. Considering that that game was played at home where the Ravens rarely lose and they play them in Cincinnati this week, my confidence is not as high as it should be. The Bengals need this game to guarantee a playoff spot while the Ravens need this win to guarantee a first round bye in the playoffs. The Bengals have a solid defense and a surprisingly scary offense led by rookies Andy Dalton and A.J. Green that have torched some secondaries recently. It’s certainly no walk in the park and the Ravens will need to be on their A game if they want to come out of Cincy with a W on their back. This game is full of playoff implications and dictates the postseason for many other teams. The Steelers are nipping the heels of the Ravens and the Jets and Raiders would love to see the Bengals lose. It’s sure to be a good one.
