The Ravens had a pretty decent morning. Both of the AFC North teams won their games, but other than them, almost every other AFC team lost which further widens the gap between the 5-2 Ravens and the field. Heres how it went down.
Chicago 23 Carolina 22- This game had little to no impact on the Ravens, but it was still an entertaining game. The Panthers entered the fourth quarter with a 19-7 lead and the Bears rallied hard to take a 20-19 lead but the Panthers answered back with a field goal with under 3 minutes to play. The Bears got the last laugh when they hit the game winning field goal as time expired. Cam Newton threw for a solid 314 yards, but he turned the ball over 2 times and had an additional 2 fumbles that were recovered by the Panthers.
Cleveland 7 San Diego 6- The Browns won their second straight home game today as they stifled the Chargers offense and gutted out a 1 point win. Trent Richardson had his best day as a pro rushing for 122 yards and the games only touchdown. The Browns took a quick lead in the first quarter and never surrendered it. The Chargers were only able to mount 2 field goal drives despite only turning the ball over one time. This was the best the Browns defense has looked in a long time. This is significant because they have had 2 straight strong showings at home and the Ravens will be walking into a rowdy and confident cleveland come Sunday. The Browns have been competitive for their last four games.
Detroit 28 Seattle 24- Detroit is furiously trying to save their season and have now won 2 of their last three to bounce back to 3-3 after a 1-3 start. Matt Stafford was excellent today as he shredded arguably the best secondary in the NFL to the tune of 353 yards and 3 TDs including the game winner with about 40 seconds left in the game.
Green Bay 24 Jacksonville 15- not much to report here. Blain Gabbert had his best game as a pro which leads me to believe that the Jaguars should re-tear his labrum once it heals because he clearly is better with a torn labrum(i kid…but seriously). He passed for 2 TDs and over 300 yards, on the flip side of that though is that the Packers D is short most of its best players and was terrible even before they lost those guys.
Miami 30 New York Jets 9- Yikes. It is bad enough to be beat by the Dolphins, but the Jets got completely stopped by them. Not only that, but the Dolphins did it missing their starting QB for most of the game. If you are a Jets fan there is only one question to ask now…Is it Tebow Time? Nothing could be much worse than what they are dealing with right now.
Atlanta 30 Philadelphia 17- The Falcons continue their rampage through the NFL and are still undefeated for at least 7 more days. This was more dominant than the 30-17 score would indicate. The Falcons did whatever they wanted all day long and had little trouble dispatching the Eagles. If Matt Ryan isnt the front-runner(by a mile) for the MVP award, they should just stop giving it away.
Pittsburgh 27 Washington 12- The Steelers put on their hideous throwback jerseys and then showed the world how to stop RGIII dead in his tracks. Griffen wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t good either. he threw for just 177 yards and a TD but also had a pick and managed just 8 yards on six rushing attempts. It would have been nice to have the Steelers lose while the Ravens were resting, but getting a blue print for the Ravens upcoming game against the Redskins is not a bad consolation prize.
New England 45 St Louis 7- In the first quarter it looked like England might finally get to see a good game as the Rams took a 7-0 lead and the Pats fought back to tie the game 7-7. They went on to finish the game by scoring 45 straight points to completely humiliate the Rams. Ryan Mallet even got a few snaps in this one. This games was a snoozer through and through.
Indianapolis 19 Tennessee 13(OT)- The Colts won their second time in three games and took down a divisional rival to do it. Tennessee played well throughout but Andrew Luck and the Colts just outlasted them in overtime to take home the win. Luck and Rookie RB Vick Ballard teamed up on a screen pass and run for the game winning score in OT.
