Finally! The Ravens got it done today and re-signed Vonta Leach. The move has been pretty much common knowledge for about a week, but they finally made it official today by putting pen to paper.

With Dennis Pitta done for the season, the Ravens needed Vonta back more than ever and they had been keeping a roster spot open for him for weeks. It turns out, the Ravens had by far the best offer on the table for Leach and Leach and his agent over-estimated the value of the aging fullback. no other team offered him more than vet. minimum.

Leach is still undisputedly the best fullback in football and he is a surefire probowler and all pro if he stays healthy. The Ravens likely will not use him as much as they have the past two seasons, but they still will rely on him in the red zone and on third downs. He opens huge gaps for Ray Rice and BErnard Peirce to run through, he is key to the Ravens have an effective run game. I would also be that the Ravens run a very healthy amount of play action this season. LEach will be a big part in making teams respect the Ravens ability to run the ball which will lure them into favorable play action matchups for the Ravens offense.

This is where Leach belonged and was needed. It feels like he never even left.
