Ted Marchibroda is a name that should mean a lot to Baltimore football fans. He was the Baltimore Colts head coach from 1975-1979 and he was the Baltimore Ravens first head coach. According to reports, Marchibroda passed away today.
Marchibroda was a true football man. He spent most of his life in the realm of professional football. In the 1950’s he was a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Cardinals. In addition to his two coaching ventures in Baltimore he coached for Indianapolis Colts in from 1992-1995. He worked with Jim Kelly as the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator from 1989-1991. He was 87-98-1 as a head coach in the NFL.
Marchibroda was a good man and he was very respected in the football world. While he only coached for two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, he was the first coach they ever had. The relocated franchise needed somebody with a proven past to get the Ravens off to a strong start. While he only had 10 wins in his two seasons with the Ravens, he laid the groundwork for the Brian Billick era to get off to a strong start.
Marchibroda has worked with some of the best players in Baltimore football history. It was nice having somebody who was once a part of the Baltimore Colts as the coach in the beginning of the Baltimore Ravens. Who else can say they worked with Baltimore legends all the way from Bert Jones to Ray Lewis?
