Baltimore Ravens Have An Experienced Coaching Staff
John Harbaugh Has Surrounded Himself With Experienced Coaches For The Benefit Of The Baltimore Ravens
John Harbaugh was born to be a football coach. He is the son of Jack Harbaugh, who had ten jobs as a College Football Coach (including being the head coach of Western Michigan and Western Kentucky). John Harbaugh beat his brother Jim, in Super Bowl XLVII. It is no wonder an experienced coaching staff has been a priority in Baltimore.

The Ravens’ Harbaugh got his start to coaching as a position coach for Western Michigan in 1984. By 2008 he had worked his way to becoming the third coach of the Baltimore Ravens. One of the greatest strengths of Harbaugh has been his willingness to let his coaching staff help him. Harbaugh is the clear and unquestioned leader, but he is never the only voice the players hear.
Defensive Coordinator, Dean Pees, has 37 years of coaching experience on his resume. He had several stints as a defensive coordinator in the college ranks. He also was a head coach for Kent State from 1998-2003. Before being the Ravens defensive coordinator Pees spent six seasons with the New England Patriots (4 seasons as the defensive coordinator.

Marc Trestman, the Ravens offensive coordinator is also very experienced. While most Ravens fans know that Trestman was the Chicago Bears head coach for two seasons; they may be surprised to hear that Trestman has held 15 jobs in the coaching profession. Trestman was highly successful as a head coach in the CFL. With the Montreal Alouettes, he had a 59-31 record and won two consecutive Grey Cup Championships.
Juan Castillo is the Ravens offensive line coach. He has worked as an offensive line coach in both college and the NFL. Castillo worked for the Philadelphia Eagles (his connection to Harbaugh) from 1995-2012. Castillo has not spent a year unemployed since 1982; he must know what he’s doing.
Castillo spent a long time working for Andy Reid. Reid is one of the most respected coaches in the league. Reid also had a huge influence on shaping Harbaugh into the coach he has become. Pees worked side by side with Bill Belichick, who many consider one of the greatest coaches of all time. The Ravens have experienced coaches who have been influenced by great coaches along the way.

The Ravens hired Leslie Frazier to be their secondary coach this offseason. He was the head coach for Trinity International University from 1988-1996. He has since had a handful of defensive back coach and defensive coordinator positions. He was the Minnesota Viking head coach from 2011-2013 though he took over for Brad Childress in 2010.
I could go on but you get the point. The Ravens currently employ two assistant coaches who were previously head coaches in the NFL. Harbaugh always can turn to his experienced coaching staff. His fellow coaches are a great resource to him. They understand Harbaugh’s job and how they can help him do his thing.
The experienced coaching staff is also great for the players, especially the inexperienced ones. Coaching is just another word for teaching. The Ravens have a well equipped team of seasoned teachers.
