ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Kenneth Dixon doesn’t need surgery and is expected to miss four weeks.

The Ravens got some good news today. When Kenneth Dixon was helped off the field on Saturday night, it looked pretty gruesome. We knew that this was a substantial injury, and all we could do is wait for more information. Dixon will be out for approximately four weeks. When there was only bad news on the table, this is the best news the Ravens could really hope for.

Kenneth Dixon is surely a star in the making. In all three of the Ravens preseason games he has done something special. It seems like every time he touches the football he can make something happen. If Dixon was out for the season, that would have been a devastating blow to the Ravens.

The good news is that the Ravens have two weeks until the season gets under way. Dixon is a big play waiting to happen, the Ravens have to want him to get touches. In the mean time the Ravens have plenty of talent at the running back spot.

The backfield certainly isn’t the Ravens weakest area. Justin Forsett is an established starter. Terrance West looks an up and coming player. When you add Buck Allen to the mix, the Ravens aren’t exactly lacking in the ball carrier department.

Baltimore was collectively nervous about Dixon’s injury. They had just seen their new tight end suffer a season ending injury. It looked like Dixon’s injury could be just as severe. Thankfully, it looks like the Ravens will have to go only a month Dixon-free.
