The NFL Draft is fully stocked with great options at the cornerback and safety positions. If the Ravens want to improve their pass defense, the 2017 NFL Draft is the time to do it.

When you look at the cornerback class in the 2017 NFL Draft, there are many defensive backs that could be in play for the Ravens. Other than Marshon Lattimore, who will likely be a top five selection, every cornerback on the board is a realistic possibility.

In my very preliminary big board there are seven cornerbacks with first round grades. There are a total of 10 cornerbacks in my top 50 prospects, and truthfully that number could go up over the next couple of weeks. If the Ravens want cornerbacks, they have a realistic chance of getting one with the 16th pick.

Marlon Humphrey is the ninth ranked player on my board at the moment. The cornerback from Alabama could be there when the Ravens pick. Humphrey is a smart, aggressive and physical cornerback who reminds me of Chris McAlister. Quincy Wilson is another talented cover corner who the Ravens could look at. Wilson’s teammate, Jalen Tabor is also an option. Desmond King has great size and ability. The list goes on and on when it comes to quality cornerback prospects.

The purple and black would not be forced to take a cornerback in the first round of the draft. There are many positions of need on the Ravens roster and more importantly a ton of great corners on the board. Codrea Tankersley, from Clemson, would be a tremendous pick in the second round. Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis would also be a great find in the second round.

The Bottom Line:

At the safety positions this draft class is also very good. Malik Hooker is a ball hawk that is being compared to Ed Reed, left and right. Jamal Adams is a versatile as it comes. Adams was the Ravens pick in our last mock draft.  Buda Baker is one of the most under valued players in this draft class.

The Ravens’ fans want to see a cornerback taken with the 16th pick. There is a very good chance of that happening. However, I would not rule out the Ravens addressing the cornerback position in the second or the third round. Starting caliber cornerbacks are not hard to find in this draft class. Don’t rule out drafting a safety either.
