The Baltimore Ravens have re-signed nose tackle Brandon Williams

After it seemed like a lost cause, the Ravens have worked their magic one again. Nose Tackle Brandon Williams will be coming back to Baltimore. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter broke the news on Twitter. The deal is a 5 year, $54 million contract with $27.5 guarneteed. With the deal, Williams becomes the highest paid nose tackle in the NFL.

This signing solidifies the Ravens defense going into next season. Williams is a force in the middle of the defensive line. Since being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2013 draft, he has developed into one of the best defensive lineman in the NFL. He constantly demands double teams on almost every play, which opens up the holes for the rest of the front seven. The addition of Tony Jefferson in the secondary and the possibility of drafting a cornerback in the first round of the NFL draft is very exciting. There are still problems to address on the offensive end, but it is nice to see the defense staying strong. After all, defense does win championships.

Patience Is A Virtue

As free agency began to creep near, it was being reported that Brandon Williams was going to be gone. Teams like the Titans and New York Giants were in the running for him. It would have been devastating for the Ravens to lose all three of their top free agents, but Ozzie Newsome and the front office stayed patient and were able to agree on a contract.

Bringing Williams back shows that the Ravens are able to reach in their pockets to pay hometown talent. It has not seemed to be the case lately, but it shows how much Williams means to the defense and how much he wanted to stay in Baltimore. A talent like his only comes around ever so often. As a Ravens fan, you have to be excited to see him chasing around quarterbacks for the next five years.
