Free agent wide receiver Kamar Aiken has signed with the Indianapolis Colts

The Baltimore Ravens wide receiver depth chart will get even more thin with the departure of Kamar Aiken. It was reported this morning that Aiken was set to sign with the Colts, and the deal became official in the afternoon. The deal is for one year, but money specifics have not been released.

This comes as expected. It had been reported that Aiken visited the Colts on Friday and was set to visit the Seahawks not long after. Aiken came undrafted out of Central Florida and found a home with the Ravens in 2014. He spent the next three seasons with the team and became a solid option at wide out. He will now join former Raven’s defensive coordinator and now head coach Chuck Pagano in Indianapolis. The Colts are a very pass happy team and Aiken should have plenty of opportunities to catch passes from Andrew Luck.

Wide Receiver Now High Priority In Draft

I think the loss of Aiken is going to be much more of an impact than people think. He did not get much playing time last season, but he’s proved his worth. In 2015 he was one of the lone bright spots and caught for 944 yards and 5 touchdowns. Keeping Mike Wallace helps, but he is more of a deep threat than a possession receiver. Breshad Perriman has the potential to be a #1 wide receiver, but he is still a couple years off.

This now puts the wide receiver as one of the top priorities in the draft. I would expect the Ravens to draft one in either the first or second round. John Ross out of Washington has been heavily linked to Baltimore, but there are good wide receivers available past the first round. Free agency could still be an option as well. Veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin is still available and it would not surprise me to see the Ravens try to bring him back.
