Cornerback Jerraud Powers is set to retire from the NFL.
A story that isn’t going to get headlines, but is still news if you follow the Baltimore Ravens. Former Ravens cornerback Jerraud Powers is retiring at the age of 29. Powers announced his decision on an Instagram post that he shared early yesterday.

After spending seven seasons with the Colts and Cardinals, Powers joined the Ravens last season on a one year contract. He started six games and finished with 26 tackles and two interceptions. Powers became a free agent after the season and there were no reports of the two sides talking about a deal to bring him back. It also did not seem like he received much attention from other NFL teams either.
Former Cardinal teammate and now Raven Tony Jefferson sent out this tweet after hearing the announcement.
always kept it 100 @JPowers25 you're a stand up guy congrats on Great career. Only dude who told me to stop celebrating after a great play

That is high praise from a young and upcoming safety.

At the age of 29 it may seem early for an NFL player, but we have seen this become a trend as of recently. The toll that football takes on someones body is more than most of us can imagine. Plus if you are not getting the money or offers you are looking for, it might not be worth going to another team for a one year contract.
Best of luck to Jerraud as he continues on to the next step of his life.
