This match-up of our Ravens Legend Bracket Series features two Ravens offensive players, one current and one retired: Joe Flacco and Brandon Stokley

Today we take a look at another match-up in the Brian Billick region of our Ravens Legend Bracket series. It features a former and current player: Joe Flacco and Brandon Stokley. Both have helped bring Super Bowls to Baltimore and contributed on the offensive side of the ball. One at quarterback and one at wide receiver. It may seem like a lopsided match-up but there’s always an argument for each player. Who will move on in this round? Let’s take a look.

Why Flacco is a Ravens legend

Joe Flacco still has time left in his career, but he’s already established himself as a Ravens legend. He leads the franchise in virtually every category for quarterbacks. He sits at 32,639 passing yards and 182 career total touchdowns. To put it in perspective, the next closest is Kyle Boller who finished with 7,846 yards. That’s what happens when you have consistency at the quarterback position. Since being drafted in 2008, Flacco has been under center for essentially his whole career. The only exception is 2015 when he suffered a major knee injury.

People may hark on him with the numbers, but Flacco knows how to get the job. He knows how to put the Ravens in a position to win. The regular season may seem shaky, but when he gets into the playoffs, it’s like a completely different person. Behind Brady and Roethlisberger, Flacco has the third best playoff record in NFL history. This includes a 2012 Super Bowl win where he tied Joe Montana’s playoff record with 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Why Stokley is a Ravens legend

Stokley will most be remembered for his first stint with the Ravens. He spent the first four seasons of his career in Baltimore. While the numbers aren’t out of this world, Stokley was a reliable receiver. He was key in the franchise’s first Super Bowl. Stokley caught the first touchdown of the 2001 Super Bowl from quarterback Trent Dilfer. It was part of a 35-7 blowout over the New York Giants. His time in Baltimore sparked a 15 year career in the NFL.

After bouncing around to different teams Stokley signed with the birds during the 2013 season. Unfortunately, injuries forced him to miss a good amount of the season. He decided to retire from the league after the season.

Winner: Flacco

It’s really not much of a contest here. Stokley was a good receiver for the Ravens but he does not compare to what Joe Flacco has done for this franchise. He still has time left to play and will go down as the best quarterbacks in franchise history. Flacco will now go up against 10 seed Tony Siragusa.
