The Ravens Legends bracket continues with an interesting contest. It’s Derrick Mason vs Kelly Gregg

The Ravens Legends Bracket is still going strong in the second round. In the Newsome region we have an interesting battle. Derrick Mason is arguably the best receiver the Ravens ever had. Kelly Gregg was a tough nose guard for the Ravens for a long time. It’s a battle between two players that are impossible not to love. Sadly, one player is leaving the bracket, because only one can win.

Why Kelly Gregg made the second round:

Gregg went up against Steve McNair in the first round. Gregg won because of longevity. McNair gave the Ravens one really strong season but Gregg played for the Ravens from 2001-2010. He is easily one of the most underrated players that have ever won the purple and black. When it comes down to it, Gregg gave more to the team than McNair did. If McNair had not gotten hurt in 2007, or came to the Ravens sooner, it could have been a lot tougher for Gregg to advance in this tournament.

Gregg started 148 games for the Ravens. He had 548 tackles, 20.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He was more of a space eater than a pass rusher, and he made the players around him better for his hard work.

Why Derrick Mason is the winner:

Mason gave so much to the Ravens. Mason is one of those players that you root for a little extra. That’s because he gave a little extra on every play. He was tough, gritty and determined to make plays for the team. Mason had 103 receptions in 2007. How anyone does that with Kyle Boller and Troy Smith taking turns at the quarterback position is beyond me. That may be the greatest feat of Mason’s incredible career.

Mason had over 60 receptions in every season he played in Baltimore. He was a Raven until the 2011 season when he went to the New York Jets. That’s not bad for a player who came to the Ravens in his ninth NFL season. This is how good Mason is. He may be the best receiver the Ravens or the Titans have ever had.

Mason wins. At the end of the day, he was the bigger star. Mason was the top target for a Ravens team that needed him bad. In the third round, Mason will play Micheal McCrary. I don’t know who will win, but I know one thing, you couldn’t possibly fit more heart into a match-up.
