After the earlier rumor of Andre Smith, today’s is of a less prominent name: Greg Toler. Ever heard of him? Toler played at St. Paul’s in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and picked off 14 passes in his career. Right now, he projects as somewhere from a 2nd round to 5th round pick, and possibly in the later rounds. Toler ran a 4.35 forty, and is 5’11”, 195 lbs.
As a small guy, Toler put up great numbers in his senior year: 51 tackles, 6 interceptions and deflected 19 passes. The tackles and deflections shocked me when I first saw them. Toler has worked out with the Browns and Dolphins, and is being pursued by the Jets. He is being compared to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie of last year’s draft, a talented player from a small school. The downside is that he weighs very little, he has no experience against top-flight competition and the NFL didn’t think enough of him to give him an invite to the combine. The Ravens are scheduling a visit with him, with no date being announced yet. Toler went to Northwest in PG County, so he knows all about the Ravens and the way this community feels about them, even though he is closer to D.C. This is one of those guys that should be interesting to look for on draft day. If you know of a guy like him that we should follow for whatever reason, a player not many people know about, comment or email, and we’ll compile a list closer to draft day.
