So today, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Ravens have signed former BYU and Dolphins QB John Beck to a 1-year contract. When drafted, Beck was considered to be the eventual starter in Miami, but Bill Parcells seemed to not like him as much, hence the Chad Pennington signing. Beck was released on April 27th, and will be 28 when the season starts, even though he is only heading into his 3rd year. The explanation for his old age is his mormon mission, a required element of going to BYU. An odd coincidence, Beck is the second mormon the Ravens have acquired in the last two weeks, after drafting 23-year old defensive end Paul Kruger out of Utah.
