Prince Miller Cut, OL Scott Kooistra Signed

It sounds like a broken record. Prince Miller, the cornerback who has shown some flashes of talent as a punt returner, will be cut from the Ravens’ roster for a second time. With Jared Gaither AWOL and a lack of depth on the offensive line, the team will waive Miller, who is part of a crowded depth chart at cornerback, to clear up roster space for an additional offensive lineman.

Miller, 22, played his college football at Georgia and racked up 117 tackles and one interception during his four years for the Bulldogs. Being an undrafted free agent, the 5’8″ defensive back turned heads in training camp and the preseason with his versatility in the return game. Being a cheap, versatile option at cornerback, where the Ravens were looking for more depth, Miller made the initial 53-man roster. Opting to join the Patriots’ practice squad after being waived a day after making the roster, few thought Miller would ever make an impact in Baltimore. After being cut from the Pats’ practice squad, the Ravens re-signed him, and many theorized that he could take punt returning duties from Tom Zbikowski. After getting no game action, the team decided to waive Miller once again.

Per Aaron Wilson, the Ravens have filled Miller’s roster spot with offensive lineman Scott Kooistra. Kooistra can play at both the tackle and guard positions, the kind of hybrid lineman that Cam Cameron and the Ravens really like. A 7th-round pick in 2003 out of N.C. State, Kooistra has played in 84 games over 7 seasons, all with the Cincinatti Bengals. From 2004 to 2007, Kooistra played in 62 of the Bengals’ 64 games. An intimidating physcial specimen at 6’6″ and 320 pounds, Kooistra should help bolster the offensive line and be the depth the Ravens need in case of any further injury to their blockers.
