Ravens Offensive Line Needs
By Riley B
Yesterday, we saw that Oniel Cousins will be moved to right guard. I like this move for multiple reasons. One, it will give Jah Reid more reps at tackle which he needs and two, Cousins was not looking good at tackle. A lot of the questions at offensive line hinge around Jah Reid’s performance.
Many said that drafting Jah Reid was a risky move and it’s proving to be a high risk, high reward scenario. If he pans out, than we will have a solid offensive line. If not, Marshall Yanda will be forced to move back to right tackle and Oniel Cousins will be the likely guard replacement. This is the worst scenario given that Yanda prefers to play guard and Cousins is not a proven starter and lacks experience. Jah Reid is a still a rookie so we can’t expect too much of him. Hopefully he’ll make the next step at some point this season. When he finally catches on, the line will be much less questionable.
Tackle is the obvious weak spot but with the free agent market close to dead, acquiring a new one is easier said than done. I’m still not sold on Michael Oher at LT but we will have to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he can control his false start penalties from last year, we’ll be in good shape. We can only hope that things improve but we will have to wait and see what they can do during the rest of preseason.
