Competition Good For Paul Kruger and Sergio Kindle

When Jarrett Johnson signed with the San Diego Chargers this offseason, many wondered who would fill the ironman’s spot at the outside linebacker position. While many hoped that Paul Kruger or Sergio Kindle could take over his duties, the addition of second round draft pick Courtney Upshaw has many people looking at the Alabama prospect as the likely heir to JJ’s spot. While there’s no guarantee that Upshaw will contribute on the field right away, he will most definitely impact the team positively.

The addition of Courtney Upshaw will help both Paul Kruger and Sergio Kindle tremendously. The thought of a rookie coming and taking away their roster spot should be enough motivation to put in those extra hours in the gym and film room. While Kruger is still the veteran and front runner for the SAM linebacker, he knows that Upshaw will be nipping at his heels all offseason.Additionally, Sergio Kindle hasn’t played a lick of football since his head injury in 2010, and it’s finally time to see if he can still play. If he’s unable to put forth a good showing at camp, they’ll be no hesitation when it comes to cutting him. He knows this and the coaches do too.
