Today the league will finally announce compensatory draft picks. The Ravens are always winners when the picks are announced because they always let so many free agents walk away. Next year the Ravens will have plenty of picks again thanks to the losses of Ellerbe, Kruger and Williams and the lack of any signings on the market(released players do not count, both Chris Canty and Marcus Spears were released).
Basically, if you dont know, compensatory picks are awarded to teams who lose free agents and dont sign free agents to replace them. There is a complex formula that is kept pretty secret by the league, but there are a few people who think they have cracked the code and they are usually fairly accurate.
Right now the Ravens are projected to receive 4 picks, one in each of the last 4 rounds(4, 5, 6, 7) for the losses of Ben Grubbs, Jarrett Johnson, Cory Redding, Haruki Nakamura and Tom Zibikowski, the only addition they made was Corey Graham(Jacoby Jones was released by the Texans so he doesn’t count). There is also a chance that the 4th round pick could turn into a third rounder because Ben Grubbs is the second highest paid player in the league at his position now. either way, the Ravens will receive a good haul here, 4 is the max number of Compensatory picks a team can receive and the Ravens will almost certainly receive all four.
