So you might have heard that the Ravens have lost a couple of players on defense. Dont worry if you havent heard, it wasnt like they were big names or anything….ok in all seriousness, the Ravens have lost both of their starting safeties over the past week, they have no real replacements on the roster(not 2 replacements anyway). There have been rumors for a couple of days now that the Ravens were interested in former Raiders Safety Michael Huff.

Huff would step into Ed Reeds old role of center fielder free safety. To clarify, the Ravens would be massively overhauling the role of FS in their defense no matter who steps in, so when i say things like that about Reed, just assume i mean in a vastly changed, but similar role. Huff would be an excelent signing for Baltimore because he would be relatively cheap and he can play either safety role, and he can play corner from anywhere on the field. When you lose multiple starters on one side of the ball, it is always nice to bring in players(or promote players) who can play multiple positions and give you flexibility.

This might not be a popular stance right now, but Huff, in my eyes, would be an upgrade on the field over either Reed or Pollard, take your pick which one. Sentimentality is gushing uncontrollably out of Ravens fans right now, but lets remember that Reed had an extremely average season this year and Huff, while not great, is easily an above average safety.

Huff is set to visit the Ravens facility some time in the next week, it sounds as if his signing might be a foregone conclusion though, the visit might be more of a formality than anything else.
