Its time to dust off an old classic, The Ravens most wanted list. Long time readers might remember this from the past 2 years. basically this is a list of what i think are the Ravens top five targets in the first and second rounds. We start at 5th target in the 2nd round and work our way all the way down to the number 1 first round target. Lets get it going!
Finally, number one, my favorite guy in the first round, Keenan Allen, WR, Cal.
Allen was once thought of as the consensus top WR in the class. he has since been hampered by a knee injury that didnt allow him to work out for draft scouts until just recently, when he ran a poor 40, and he failed a drug test. in short, he has had a nightmare draft season. That is all good news for the Ravens who would never have had a shot at Allen otherwise.
Allen is now close to being a lock to be available at the end of the draft thanks to the failed drug test, but he is still a top 15 talent who just has some issues to resolve. The drug test doesn’t seem to be a recurring issue(even if it does show some extremely poor judgement to fail a drug test during your big job interview, but still). Allen is a textbook possession WR and would immediately step into Anquan Boldins old slot WR role. he would work a ton with the Ravens TEs and allow Jacoby Jones and Torrey Smith a little more room to operate on the outsides by bringing a safety down to deal with him underneath.
Allen ran a very poor 40 time for a WR(he didnt break 4.7), but he runs faster on the field than he does in a straight line. He is explosive with the ball in his hands because he makes such good moves in the open field and evades defenders using body position and strength rather than pure speed.
He would be a slam dunk pick as long as he has checked out medically.
