Here is the biggest news to come out of the NFL in weeks, sadly it isnt really big news but whatever. The NFL is on the verge of a deal with the NFLPA to completely re-structure the NFL offseason.
First, they would move the start of free agency forwar to the end of February. There had been some discussion of moving it back, but word on the street is that the NFLPA wouldnt have any part of the NFL attempting to delay free agency so they decided to move it forward and move everything else around it.
The next proposed change is moving the combine from late February to mid to late march, that keeps the NFL schedule basically the same, just swaps the combine and free agency. After that, the NFL draft would be moved to mid may. That means that this dead time were in right now, wouldnt be so dead anymore. We would still be talking about draft fallout and undrafted free agency.
That way OTAs would start up shortly after the draft, the NFL calendar would be be a legit 12 month timeline and a full year round sport. Im typically a traditional sort of guy, Im not a huge fan of change, especially in the schedule of my sports year, but I like this plan. Plain and simple, May and June suck as far as the NFL is concerned. There is less than nothing happening, the only news is completely fabricated or complete conjecture. This plan makes May exciting and June should have enough carryover to last at least most of the month. This is pretty sweet stuff.
