Terrence Cody had a rough year last year. He took major steps back from his breakout 2011 campaign and even lost his starting job to a player who had been out of football for over a year. Cody struggled through a hip injury the entire season and after offseason surgery to repair it, he it now set to miss the start of training camp.

The Ravens shouldnt miss him too much while he is gone, the offseason signings of Chris Canty, Marsuc Spears and the drafting of Brandon Williams were all aimed at getting Haloti Ngata back to nose tackle. Ngata is one of the premier NTs in the league, so Cody wasnt likely to start anyway and he might even be pushed to the roster bubble if Brandon Williams outclasses him in training camp.

I would strongly suspect that Terrence Cody could end up on the PUP list. that would give the Ravens 6 extra weeks to evaluate him and figure out if he is worth keeping on the team. It would also free up an extra roster space for one of the young WRs to use for a few weeks to try and prove themselves.

Cody has a long way to go to get back to where he was in 2011. If he can’t then he will become a rare early round miss for Ozzie Newsome.
