While the rest of the world is projecting the Ravens to keep only two QB’s on the roster, I am sticking to my guns here and saying they will keep sixth round pick Keith Wenning around as well. This is a team that doesn’t waste draft picks in a league that is starved for quarterbacks. Most are predicting that the Ravens will try and sneak Wenning onto the practice squad. I think that would be a mistake.
It’s true that Wenning hasn’t played much, but he has looked pretty darn good when he does. Despite his decent performance in Thursday night’s game against the 49ers, I don’t think that Tyrod Taylor is the long term answer at backup quarterback. It would make a lot of sense for the team to hang on to Wenning and let him develop this year, then let Taylor walk next offseason. Pay close attention to how much Wenning plays through the preseason. If he plays sparingly, it’s a sign the Ravens might try and sneak him on to the practice squad.
