Stock down: Matt Elam

We won’t mince words here: Matt Elam was the worst player on the field Sunday.  And we have the proof to back it up.  Elam received the worst overall grade (-4.2) of any player on either side of the ball for his dud against the Browns by Pro Football Focus.  Elam was repeatedly burned in coverage, over and over.

The Raven’s secondary had a horrible day all the way around, but Elam was the worst offender.  He was thrown at only twice, but gave up receptions each time.  One for 43 yards, and one for 70 yards.  23 of those yards came after the catch.  And the best part?  He was burned by Travis Benjamin and Taylor Gabriel.  Who?

Elam has progressively gotten worse with each game this season, despite playing every single snap so far.  He has been horrible in pass coverage this season (-4.3) and merely terrible against the run (-0.2).  It’s fair to wonder at what point the Ravens will shuffle up their secondary, and what the unit will look like once Will Hill returns from suspension.
