Get Production From Someone Other Than Torrey Smith

We started the season with Steve Smith dominating opposing corners while Torrey Smith was largely invisible.  That trend has flipped in recent weeks, and T. Smith has been the only viable pass catching option in Joe Flacco’s arsenal.  Against the Dolphins, somebody else is going to have to step up.

Dolphin’s top cornerback Brent Grimes is Pro Football Focus’ #22 ranked corner, but behind him the situation gets very muddy. Fellow starter Courtland Finnegan missed last week with an ankle injury, and he has been bad when healthy.  He currently ranks 72nd among 117 qualifiers at the position, while his replacement R.J. Stanford was signed off the street prior to last week’s game.

If Grimes shadows Torrey Smith, as we would expect, this means that someone else has to step up.  And no one has in the last few weeks, including Owen Daniels.  The Ravens are likely hoping that promising rookie Michael Campanaro is healthy enough to return this week, as he adds a much needed presence in the slot.
