Outside of some early, boneheaded penalties, this unit was very solid in their first game without Haloti Ngata.  After giving up ten points, the defense hunkered down and began to relentlessly pressure Ryan Tannehill to the tune of 9 QB hits and 6 sacks. 3.5 of those came from Elvis Dumervil, who broke the Ravens’ single season mark in the process.

Timmy Jernigan was very effective, as was Lawrence Guy in his first extended action of the season.  The D also shut down the Dolphin’s top ten NFL rushing offense, though Miami only ran the ball a head scratching 16 times.  The secondary didn’t do anything awful outside of giving up an easy TD pass, but when the front seven is dominating, they don’t have to.
