As we head into the offseason and prepare for the craziness that is NFL free agency, we thought it would be fun to take a look ahead at some players that the Ravens might be interested in pursuing. While we can all dream about seeing our favorite team signing guys like Dez Bryant or Justin Houston (both free agents this year), we’re going to be a little more realistic and only look at players that might actually hit the market and draw interest from the Ravens.

Today’s highlighted free agent is one that isn’t really well known outside the city of San Diego. Cornerback Shareece Wright was a third round selection of the Chargers back in 2011, but has so far failed to truly live up to his draft status over his four years in the league.  This, despite garnering plenty of playing time over that time period.

2014 saw Wright set career highs in games played (14), tackles (60), and passes defensed (10).  His numbers have improved each year, though he did struggle in coverage in 2014, ranking only 105th out of 108 qualifying cornerbacks by Pro Football Focus.  Part of his decline in this area can be attributed to lining up opposite of free agent acquisition Brandon Flowers, the 15th ranked corner by PFF, who likely had quarterbacks shying away from his side of the field.

Shareece Wright has a good chance of hitting the free agent market with 2014 first round pick Jason Verett waiting in the wings.  His struggles in coverage are a concern, but he has shown improvement and might benefit from a change of scenery.  There are some that feel that Wright might be a good signing for the Ravens, and I tend to agree that he would make for a relatively cheap option for a player with a lot of starting experience.
