The Philadelphia Eagles had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL last season, a performance so bad that the team is forced to make some changes.  The first of which came on Tuesday as the team cut cornerback Cary Williams.  The Eagles are flush with cap space and are rumored to be eyeing free agency’s top corners, including Byron Maxwell.

Williams spent four years in Baltimore with the Ravens prior to his two year stint in Philadelphia, and it appears that at least the player is interested in a reunion.  With some huge holes in the secondary, playing connect the dots with Cary Williams and the Ravens was inevitable as Aaron Wilson and Jason La Canfora took to Twitter.

Williams had some nice moments during his tenure in Baltimore and appeared in all 16 games in both 2011 and 2012.  He racked up 35 passes defensed over those two seasons in addition to 4 interceptions and a sack.  Things went south for him in Philly, but he stilled graded out middle of the pack in Pro Football Focus‘ rankings last season (49th out of 108 corners).

Williams recovered well over the course of 2014, but the Eagles ultimately decided he wasn’t worth the $8.1667 million he was owed in 2015.  While he has ideal size and has flashed in spots, Williams has also been very inconsistent throughout his career.  He also turned down a three year, $15 million dollar deal offered by the Ravens following the 2012 season.

The way I see it, Cary Williams could provide decent depth for the Ravens if a reunion does indeed happen.  The team can’t count on him as an every down starter, but Williams can still play quality snaps when called upon, as he proved down the stretch last season.  And his price tag will certainly come down after he largely flopped as an Eagle.
