RB Bernard Pierce waived by Ravens ($140 thousand cap hit) claimed by Jacksonville Jaguars

Pierce had fallen out of favor in Baltimore and tumbled to fourth on the depth chart behind Fitzgerald Toussaint. He was not a lock to make the team anyway, and his arrest for drunk driving was more than enough reason for the team to part ways. At only 24 years old, the Jaguars are hoping he can provide depth and maybe surprise production to their rag tag running back corps.

How to replace him: Pierce’s replacements are already on the roster with newly re-signed Justin Forsett, and the two second-year players Lorenzo Taliaferro and Toussaint.  Apparently, the Ravens like to choose their running backs by length of their last names. There has been talk of the Ravens taking a RB in the draft with Melvin Gordon coming for a visit. This is certainly an option as the Ravens badly need playmakers on the offense and Forsett will be 30 in October with a team-friendly deal.
