One name that you may not have heard much of, at least until this week, is that of Central Florida wide receiver Breshad Perriman.  Perriman saw his stock rise prior to the combine as NFL Films’ Greg Cosell compared his size and movement skills to Julio Jones, and Mel Kiper placed him in his top 15 picks at one point.

Unfortunately, Perriman was unable to participate in the Combine after he suffered a strained hamstring, which put a bit of a damper on his stock.  That regression was short lived after Perriman destroyed UCF’s Pro Day with fourty times of 4.19 and 4.27.  Those are simply incredible times for a guy who goes 6’2″ and 212 pounds.

A highly productive college wideout, Breshad Perriman peaked last season with 50 receptions for for 1,044 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging a stout 80.3 yards per game.  He went on a seven game stretch with at least one touchdown reception and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team.

Perriman became the first UCF receiver to post a 1,000+ yard season since Mike Sims-Walker did it in 2006, and recorded a streak of 31 straight games with at least one reception.  His movement skills, leaping ability, and catch radius make him a legitimate big play threat on every single snap.  Perriman is still a little raw as a route runner, but he has enough natural talent to become a top flight NFL receiver.

All of which makes Breshad Perriman a dark horse candidate for a wide receiver needy team at the tail end of the first round.  While he is sure to draw a ton of hype for his Pro Day performance, it’s hard to gauge whether or not a team might spend a top 15 pick on him.  After all, this is a guy whose game needs a little polish before he’s ready to be an every down receiver.  The Ravens, for one, would be a marriage made in heaven for the speedy big man.
