According to reports, the Baltimore Ravens have hired Leslie Frazier as the new defensive backs coach of the Ravens. The Ravens secondary now has a former head coach providing tutelage for them. It is a good hire, Frazier has a ton of experience in the NFL.

The Ravens biggest problems (at least in the secondary) hasn’t been coaching but injuries and lack of talent. Other than Jimmy Smith and Will Hill no job is locked up in the Ravens secondary. Jimmy Smith had an inconsistent 2015 season but he is still considered a top-tier cornerback in a league that doesn’t have a ton of them. Frazier may be a good defensive backs coach but he needs some respectable tools to work with.

The Ravens have already made one major change in the secondary this season, announcing that they are moving Ladarius Webb to the free safety position. That being said it will be interesting to see who is the Ravens free safety going into the next season. Kendrick Lewis has performed below the expectations the Ravens had for him in his first season in Baltimore.

Frazier was the defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he was doing a pretty good job at it. The Buccaneers were ranked 10th defensively this season. The Buccaneers allowed just 240 passing yards per game. The former Vikings head coach knows defensive football and that fact is very clear.

Frazier is a good coach who has seen it all. How impactful this move is remains to be seen, that being said it clearly cannot hurt to have a coach like Frazier on board.
