7. Torrey Smith Catches Gigantic Game Winner

The Baltimore Ravens just couldn’t beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Every game was close. Every game seemed to come down to the last play of the game. And in every single game it felt like the Ravens collapsed at the worst possible moment. The power struggle in the AFC North was tightly contested but it was fairly one sided by the team wearing yellow. Then the power shifted. The 2011 conquered the demons that had haunted them for so long against the Steelers. First the dominated the Steelers in the 2011 season opener. Then Torrey Smith caught a game winning touchdown pass that completed a 92 yard drive.

The Ravens had marched down the field. Flacco had orchestrated an unbelievable drive, mostly by finding Anquan Boldin over the middle of the field. Then Flacco threw it to Smith in the end zone. Ravens fans jumped for joy and than instantly cringed when they saw that Smith had dropped the ball. A few plays later Smith got another chance to be the hero. Flacco realized that Smith was in tight man to man coverage. Smith blew past the Steeler cornerback. Ryan Clark, the Steelers safety was to focused on the underneath route by the heavily used Boldin. It gave Smith the room to make the game winning catch. Clark, who had been an annoyance for many Ravens fans for a long time messed up making this one just a little more satisfying.

The power struggle was shifted in the Ravens favor. Since the 2011 the Ravens have won eight of 11 meetings against the Steelers. They even beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh in the 2014 playoffs. The Steelers were no longer the team that could make the Ravens collapse. The Ravens got past the mental hurdle and now it seems like that mental obstacle belongs to Pittsburgh. Let’s keep it that way Baltimore!
