Free Agency: A Thank You Letter To The Baltimore Ravens

facebooktwitterreddit

Dear Baltimore Ravens,

Thank you. Thank you for being aggressive and giving your fans something to be excited for, after a brutal 2015 campaign. Thank you for working so relentlessly to free up cap space. Thank you for signing three free agents that will improve the team dramatically in 2016.

You were 5-11 last season. Some may have expected you to shoot for a rebuilding year in 2016. But you’re the Ravens and you  expect to win now. You signed three veteran free agents, which shows us the kind of mindset the team is in. Each and every move that Mr. Newsome, Mr. DeCosta and company have put together, helps this team right now. We couldn’t be more thrilled.

Year after year we watch the NFL go crazy during free agency. We wait to see something happen for the Ravens, other than our players going to play in different cities. Every year we see guys go. Last year it was Torrey Smith and Pernell McPhee. This year it was big Kelechi Osemele. It is a nice change of pace to talk about new Ravens in March.

Signing up to be a sports fan is often a bruising endeavor. It is signing up for a fair share of heart-break and taking on an unimaginable level  of stress at the end of games. Being a Ravens fan has always been a pretty good deal though, in fact you guys have spoiled us. We’ve been to three AFC Championships since Joe Flacco and John Harbaugh came to town. We won it all in 2012, and it was pure magic.

This past season was punishing beyond belief. I guess we were due a down year, but we didn’t really know how to deal with it. I can’t imagine what it must be like to be a Cleveland Browns or a Jacksonville Jaguars fan. I never want to know what being a loser feels like. Because we wear purple on Fridays and live for Ravens Sundays. We live for M&T Bank Stadium and the sea of purple. We are the sea of purple! We live through the Ravens; true Marylanders all are Ravens at heart.

Thank you Ravens. Thank you for not resting on your past accomplishments. Thank you for not letting the heaping pile of injuries that defined 2015, be an excuse this offseason. Thank you for trying to win now. Let’s go win Super Bowl 51!

Sincerely,

Ravens Nation
