DeForest Buckner Could Be A Star For The Ravens

Deforest Buckner could be one of the most disruptive defensive linemen in the NFL for years to come. That is the potential Buckner has. There is a reason why he is one of the highest ranked draft prospects. The Ravens have to at least consider the possibility of drafting Buckner with the sixth overall pick.

Buckner fits perfectly in the Ravens 3-4 front as a defensive end. A starting defensive line of Buckner, Brandon Williams and Timmy Jernigan would be pretty formidable. With a solid linebacker group and that defensive line, running the ball would be next to impossible against the Ravens. Players like Lawrence Guy, Brent Urban and Carl Davis will be rotational players that will make an impact.

Basically, the addition of Buckner would give the Ravens one of the best defensive fronts in all of professional football. Buckner isn’t just a run stuffer. The 6’7″ 291 pound defensive end was also a productive pass rusher at Oregon. Last season he recorded 10.5 sacks. In his four year collegiate career, he racked up 18 sacks and 36 tackles for a loss. Buckner was a dominant player at Oregon; all indications are he will be just as dominant in the NFL.

The Ravens may have other needs, but Buckner makes a lot of sense. The draft is deep with cornerbacks. The Ravens have nine picks overall. The Ravens haven’t had a top-10 pick in a long time. This is a rare opportunity that they cannot miss on. If the Ravens use the sixth overall pick (instead of trading back), they must get a stud. Buckner is a safe pick. You know what your getting with the explosive defensive end.
