Baltimore Ravens Get Edge Rusher

The Baltimore Ravens traded back twice, picking up a fourth and a fifth round pick, and took Boise State outside linebacker Kamalei Correa. Correa is a strong and physical outside linebacker with a high motor. He is a bit undersized but he is a solid player.

More from Ravens Draft

I have a couple things to say about this pick, but let’s take a look at Correa first. Correa was a productive player with the Boise State Broncos. He is a 6’3 243 pound edge player who is great in run defense and creatively gets after the quarterback. In three seasons, Correa racked up 19 sacks. He had 12 sacks in the 2014 season and six sacks.

The Ravens got a really solid player who can contribute right away. I think Correa will be a starter down the line. Remember Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil are anything but young. The Ravens needed to go after the pass rusher. He put up tackles for a loss, he got the quarterback down on the ground. This is a solid player. I think he is a more talented version of Jarrett Johnson. I love Jarrett Johnson so I love the pick.

Now that we have that out of the way, I have a bit of complaining to do. Noah Spence was there. We traded back twice and saw him get drafted. Spence has talent that was far and away better than anyone on the board. If it wasn’t for the off the field problems batting him down, problems that were far behind him, Spence would have been a first round talent. He was very much my guy, and the Ravens didn’t take him.

Mackensie Alexander was still on the board. Alexander is talented and has great technique. At some point the Ravens have to address the fact that Shareece Wright is their second best cornerback on the roster. Wait and see. The Ravens have a lot of ammunition to trade back up and take a guy that they covet.

Its not what I would have done. That being said Correa is a stud muffin. I can’t knock the pick. The Ravens got a good player at a good value.
