Strong Day 3 Salvages The Baltimore Ravens Draft

I wasn’t thrilled with the Baltimore Ravens on the first two nights of the draft. I wasn’t high on Ronnie Stanley and I hope to be wrong. I felt anxious that the Ravens passed up on a lot of good players. I felt nauseous that the Ravens didn’t address their cornerback needs. A strong third day in the NFL Draft, talked me off the ledge.

The Baltimore Ravens started their active day by drafting Tavon Young. Young is a promising cornerback from Temple. While I don’t see this as a solution to the Ravens problem, another athletic player at the position helps. Young will have a chance to compete for a role in the Ravens defense and could develop into a stud.

The Ravens drafted all solid players. Chris Moore is a wide receiver from the University of Cincinnati that has size and the ability to go up and get the football. The Ravens added some depth to the offensive line with Alex Lewis from Nebraska. Lewis has the physical tool set you look for with a big 6’6″ frame and long arms.

The two most exciting picks for the Ravens were Willie Henry and Keenan Reynolds. Henry played his college football at Michigan under Jim Harbuagh. Now the impressive defensive lineman will try to make John Harbaugh’s team. Reynolds is the outstanding young man who put on a show as the Navy quarterback. He projects to be a slot receiver and he is a strong leader that will work very hard for the Ravens.

Many believe that Matt Judon, the defensive end out of Grand Valley State was a steal. Judon is an explosive athlete and a guy who wins with leverage. Though the Ravens don’t need running backs, Kenneth Dixon is seen as a draft steal as well. The Louisiana Tech running back has some moves to make guys miss and he is a scheme fit.

While I like the pick of Boise State outside linebacker, Kamalei Correa, the Ravens didn’t hit a home run in their first two days of the draft. A strong day three helped salvage the Ravens draft. I cannot stress enough that the Ravens cornerback position is still a concern. That being said, Ozzie Newsome and company did well today.
