Is Joe Flacco Really the Fourth Best Player In Ravens History?

In a NFL Now video for NFL.com Elliot Harrison gave us his top 5 Baltimore Ravens of all time. The list is as followed:

  1. Ray Lewis
  2. Ed Reed
  3. Jonathan Ogden
  4. Joe Flacco
  5. Terrell Suggs

There is nothing really surprising about this list by Harrison. Every player on the list deserves to be there. The top three players are obviously no brainers.

The question (that I’m sure many will have) is Flacco really the fourth best player in team history. Suggs is a potential member of the Pro Football Hall of fame. He has had 106.5 sacks and was named the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.

Here’s why I am okay with Harrison putting “Joe Cool” at number four. Flacco has been one of the most important Ravens. He is the only franchise quarterback they ever had. If it were not for Flacco’s insanely awesome playoff run in 2012, Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs would not have a Super Bowl ring.

Flacco may end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame some day. He has won more road games than any quarterback in NFL history. He has Super Bowl MVP on his resume. He tied a playoff record held by Joe Montana and Kurt Warner. He’s had iconic moments and most importantly he is not done yet.

I personally would put Suggs ahead of Flacco for now. Suggs has been a constant for the Ravens since 2003. Number 55 being hurt in 2015, spelled disaster in Baltimore. Plus Flacco has an opportunity to keep climbing the list. The greatness of Suggs is set in stone. The greatness of Flacco can still be built upon.

Though at the end of the day, this is a matter of opinion. Flacco is one of the most important Ravens of all-time no matter how you order it. Harrison surely got the top 5 players right. What do you think Ravens Nation?
