The 2003 Defense
Terrell Suggs came on to the scene in 2003 and was crowned the Defensive Rookie Of the Year. He had 12 sacks in his rookie campaign, which created a buzz in Baltimore. Ray Lewis was named the Defensive Player of the Year. The Ravens defense finished third in total defense. The defense only gave up 17.6 points per game. The defense gave the team a chance to win every game and the Ravens went 10-6.

This was the first year the Ravens were crowned division champions. Mike Nolan was the defensive coordinator and he pulled all the right strings. The Ravens defense was fun to watch that season. The Ravens had 24 interceptions, seven of which came from Ed Reed. The defense recovered 17 fumbles and sacked the quarterback a league leading, 47 times.
Peter Boulware and Terrell Suggs were a potent combination that season. Boulware had 8.5 sacks. The Ravens had an incredible defense. Even with Jamal Lewis’s 2,066 yard season, you could argue that the defense was still the highlight of the team.
