Is Kenneth Dixon A Star In The Making

Watching a Kenneth Dixon highlight reel is like watching Jimmy Hendrix play guitar. You don’t know how he does it, but you really enjoy it. The Louisiana Tech sensation may be on his way to being a superstar in the NFL.

Dixon put up numbers that are more than impressive. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of his four years as a student-athlete. He scored 72 touchdowns on the ground. He showed he could do it all, tallying 87 receptions for 969 yards and 15 touchdowns. Between rushing attempts and receptions he had 889 touches in his collegiate career.

It begs the question, how was this guy a fourth round pick. Well running backs are not incredibly valued in the draft. Their a dime a dozen. Backs are often replaceable and need replacing more than other positions. That combined with the smaller stage at LT and a history of fumbling (13 fumbles in three seasons) explain his draft stock.

More from Ravens News

Basically the Ravens got a steal, if Dixon can cure the fumbleitis. Dixon has a chance to get some playing time as a rookie. If he impresses in training camp, the Ravens will be dying to get him the ball. Justin Forsett comes in as the presumptive starter but that does not mean Dixon won’t get his chance.
In fact, Dixon comes in with a chance to take the starting job. He has a chance to get his touches because he can break the big play more than Forsett and Allen can.

It helps Dixon’s cause that the Ravens are probably looking to run the ball more than they did last season. Trestman may be a pass first play-caller by nature, but that’s not how the Ravens want to be. Playing catch up leads to passing. A better defense leads to more a more instrumental ground game.

Dixon has a chance to be special. He is elusive. He is fast. He has a low center of gravity, agility and power. The Ravens likely got a player who will prove more valuable than the fourth round pick they spent on him. It seems like this is something to look forward to, as we move closer to the season.
