The Baltimore Ravens Were 5-11 last season. Every year a team goes from the bottom to the top in the NFL. This year’s most likely turnaround team is the Baltimore Ravens. Here’s why the Ravens are the best bet to turn it around.

1. Franchise QB, Winning Head Coach

Say what you will about Joe Flacco, the Ravens can win with him as the quarterback. Say what you will about John Harbaugh, he is about as proven as it gets. The Ravens have the two things you absolutely must have, a winning quarterback and coach.

2. A Track Record Worth Betting On:

More from Ebony Bird

The Ravens have gone to the playoffs in six of the past eight seasons. They have won it all in 2012 and have come close to the mountain top a handful of times. In the Harbaugh era they have been to three AFC Championship games and have never been taken out in their first playoff game.

While teams like the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars look like they’re on the rise, the Ravens have been on top in recent history. No bad 2015 team has the pedigree and instilled confidence that the 2016 Ravens inherently have.

3.  A Mix Of Veteran Leadership & Young Talent

The Ravens leaders are strong-minded veterans who know life in the NFL. Marshall Yanda is the right guard. Not only is he one of the best offensive linemen in football, but he is one of the best leaders. Yanda is a rough and tumble player. He leads by example. He also does not shy away from setting the bar high for his teammates.

Players like Yanda, Steve Smith Sr. and Flacco offer a perfect blend of offensive leadership. Smith Sr. is the emotional leader. Yanda is a blend of both types of leadership and Flacco is the quiet and stern type.

Defensively you have Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil leading the front seven. Weddle is on top of his secondary. Brandon Williams and C.J. Mosley have also come into their own.

The defense has so much young talent, it’s crazy. Za’Darius Smith, Bronson Kaufusi, Kamalei Correa, Matt Judon, Willie Henry…the list goes on and on. That’s just in the front seven.

Ronnie Stanley is a rookie that will likely start from day one. Javorius Allen and Kenneth Dixon are dazzling young running backs. Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams are up and coming talents at the tight end position. We’re still waiting to see Breshad Perriman.

If the Ravens are a pie, than their veterans are the dry ingredients. They keep everything together and  provide substance. The young talent is the gooey and exciting fruit. With the Ravens strong veteran leadership and their young talent they have a recipe for success.

The take home message is that the Ravens have what it takes to be a winner. This is a good team that has won before. With a stacked roster and a little luck, this could be a special turnaround season.
