Maryland boasts two of the greatest Olympic swimmers, the red-hot Baltimore Orioles and there is reason once again to fear the turtle. The Baltimore Ravens are the key in continuing a near perfect year for the Maryland sports fan.
Tonight was incredible. Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, won another gold medal. Katie Ledecky, who hails from Bethesda and was born in Washington D.C., just won her second gold medal of the Rio Games. Phelps and Ledecky swam their way into history.

The Olympics are a great chance to celebrate our patriotism. Phelps and Ledecky are possibly the two greatest athletes of their sport. They represent the greatest country in the world and they are from our beloved state. Today is an especially proud day in Maryland.
The Orioles are also a great source of pride. The Orioles are having an incredible season. The Orioles are right where they have been for most of the season, first place. The orange and black have some of the best hitters in the MLB and have a shot to make some noise in the playoffs.
It should be noted that the Orioles went to the playoffs in 2012 and 2014. The Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2012 and made a playoff push in 2014. When the Orioles go to the playoffs, the trend suggests good news for the Ravens.
The Maryland Terrapins stock is way up. The Men’s basketball team advanced to the sweet 16 this past March. They look like they’re poised for another incredible season. The football team has a refreshing energy from their new head coach, D.J. Durkin. Everything is looking up for the Maryland sports fan.
The Ravens are the key to the perfect 2016. The stars are aligning. As training camp is well under way, the Baltimore sports fan is on cloud nine. If the Ravens are the competitive team we’re used to seeing, we’re going to need a whole new cloud.
The Ravens were 5-11 in 2015. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Injuries crippled the team. The Ravens got shellacked at home and on the road. They lost games with heartbreaking finishes. Their first round draft pick sat out the entire season with an injury.
The 2015 Ravens season followed an Orioles 2015 collapse. The O’s couldn’t get out of their own way and stumbled out of the playoff picture. Randy Edsall was fired as the Terrapins head football coach in a disastrously disappointing season. 2015 was just a horrible year for Baltimore sports.
