The Backfield

The Baltimore backfield is one of the most compelling preseason competitions in the NFL right now. The Ravens currently have six running backs on their roster. The big question is how many are they going to keep on the 53 man roster? Stephen Houston is just a camp body but every other back has an argument for making the team. Obviously Forsett has his spot for this year as he’s the number one guy. As for who’s after him on the depth chart, however, there’s no clear answer.

Terrance West has been the big story so far this offseason. He looks like a completely different player. West has lost weight and seems to have gotten his mind right. Rookie Kenneth Dixon has made some noise as well, so keep your eye on him to see if he impresses more during his second NFL game.

Sophomore Javorius “Buck” Allen has a hard time running between the tackles, but is an excellent pass-catcher. Watch how he’s used in this upcoming game as the coaches gauge just how effective he can be. Finally, Lorenzo Taliaferro, who performed admirably last season when Forsett was out with an injury, is likely to get cut simply because of roster space. Watch to see if he puts it all on the line to make a case for himself.
