What if I told you that the Baltimore Ravens 4-0 record in the preseason actually matters?
The past four games were technically meaningless. However the process was meaningful and the result is telling. Here’s some analysis that will give you a bright perspective on the purple and black.
Any chances the Ravens had in 2015 were destroyed by injuries. John Harbaugh did not have the kind of depth it needed to withstand the year Murphy’s law rattled the Ravens. When the season was over, the Ravens knew the importance of depth.

Preseason games are won because of the backups. Backups and players hoping to be backups are the real stars in these four exhibition games. The Ravens 4-0 preseason record shows how improved the Ravens depth is.
The Ravens Roster Features Never Before Seen Depth
When Joe Flacco went down last season, the Ravens were hopeless. Matt Schaub was clearly not the answer, neither was Jimmy Clausen. With Ryan Mallet and Josh Johnson, the Ravens get to choose a quality quarterback to be Flacco’s understudy.
The Ravens have so many players that can make an impact up front. Matt Judon emerged as an up and coming outside linebacker. Judon Za’Darius Smith and Albert McClellan give the defense a full wave of talent behind Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil.
The Ravens now have brutal decisions to make. They have to cut 23 players and maintain the depth that could save their 2016 season. It’s not going to be easy to say goodbye to some of these players.
John Harbaugh has a surplus of talent at the running back and wide receiver positions. Jeremy Butler has emerged as a budding star. Breshad Perriman has finally returned to action. The Ravens could keep seven receivers because they have good ones to choose from.
